The Brazil and Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior. has been linked with a huge 1 billion euros deal to move to Saudi Arabia as revealed to Reuters by sources close to the player on Monday.

Currently 24 years of age, Vinicius Junior has grown to become an integral player in Real Madrid’s and also Brazil. Nevertheless, there is potential for a massive change in the player if the Saudi Public Investment Fund – the Saudis SPL’s main investor – secures his signing. Some circles linked with PIF have allegedly contacted the player to enquire about his readiness to take a 5-year deal with a fixed yearly wage of 200m euros plus performance-related bonuses.

World Cup Ambassador Deal

The earmarked deal also involves a second contract extending to 10 years, under which Vinicius Junior would be an accessory of the 10’th World Cup in Saudi Arabia scheduled for the year 2034. Nevertheless, till now, it is still vague about the detailed performance indicators of this ambassador and the actual monetary value that will be bound with this position.

Vinicius Junior still has not rule out the prospect of the move even though an official offer has been extended to Flamengo. From other sources, it has emerged that he has agreed to allow PIF to make an offer for Real Madrid indicating some willingness to do the deal. Even if Vinicius Junior declares that he is ‘happy and motivated’ in Madrid, the player and his entourage think that such an attractive offer should be discussed.

This was informed by a source that Real Madrid has not shown any willingness to engage in any negotiation for the player’s transfer. The club is likely to always cue on the buy-out clause of one billion euros which will act as a major put off to any transfers.

Real Madrid and the Saudi Public Investment Fund did not answer requests for comment.

Saudi Football Ambitions

Saudi Arabia has taken what can best be described as a targeted approach in securing its share of the cream of young talents in football as part of a well-articulated plan of making the Kingdom one of the world’s soccer giants. This effort is part of the Kingdom’s Sports Clubs Investment and Privatization Project, through which PIF has acquired 75 percent ownership of the country’s four main clubs: These are Al Ahli, Al Ittihad, Al Hilal and Al Nassr.

The Saudi transfer market has already caused excitement, and Al Hilal, the Saudi football club, which is the country’s most successful, bought Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain for 90 million euros. Al Ittihad and Al Nassr have also posted impressive transfers this year; they have signed Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo. Earlier in the year, PIF tried to persuade France captain Kylian Mbappe to join the Al Ahli, an offer which the forward declined but joined Real Madrid in June.

There are reports that offer for Vinicius Junior is the same as that written about Mbappe, the Brazilian youth might join Al Ahli where he can team up with the former Premier League starlets such as Riyad Mahrez and Roberto Firmino.

Vinicius Junior, who renewed the contract with Real Madrid in 2022, has his contract to 2027. He is also in the running for the season’s Ballon d’Or award, which he deserves following his key role in Real Madrid’s champions league and La Liga titles in the previous season.
