It has been revealed that former President Donald Trump is thinking about electing Elon Musk as a chairman of his newly proposed commission on overhauling the government. Should Musk accept this position, he would wield unparalleled power within the U.S. government, which would certainly be of historical significance for the world’s richest individual. In the past, Musk who is the owner of Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink, and X (The application once known as Twitter), has had some government contracts and subsidies, and therefore it is always questionable about the interest and conflicts.
Danielle Brian, the president for the Project on Government Oversight stated such views with much concern, “This is like red lights blaring, all kinds of conflicts of interest.” Considering that Trump is likely to appoint Musk to key areas in his government just as he has done in the previous administrations, there are also issues of applying the system of billionaires’ appointment to the chains of command. Still, Musk knows many people in many different industries as opposed to most.
Musk’s Political Shift
Peter Leyden, the founder of Reinvent Futures and ex-managing editor at Wired stated that ‘Musk is the latest case of completely engrossed, addled with engineering-designing, silicon valleyians who looks at the politics as tries to solve it: Is it such as hard? Give It to me. I will solve it. As for those peeved with how plentiful Musky’s innovation is revolving towards politics, it is expected mournful of his fanciful investments from electric powered automobiles to social networking platforms to outer space.
Some industry insiders nevertheless say that there may be windows of solutions in Washington for Musk, even though he is a self-confessed layman when it comes to the intricacies of the federal government. He’s always been a contrarian. Will Rinehart American enterprise institute. He was working on electric cars when nobody cared about electric cars. He was working on space when nobody cared about space.”
American maverick who has hitherto identified himself as neutral changed his allegiance to Donald Trump branding him a month after the infamous assassination attempt. Musk once even mentioned that “I will be glad to give service to America if I have a chance.” He added that it is not obligatory for him to have “pay, title, or recognition.”
Even after a contentious relationship with California that includes disputes over labor and health orders over the coronavirus pandemic, Musk remains active in the technology sector. His power in Washington would be almost limitless and many who are waiting to see if he will be willing to answer would consider such a position very odd.
